The MyPALs Preschool Ministry at our church has tripled in enrollment over last year, so that wonderful blessing required a reconfiguration of the second floor of Christ Hall as the new school year begins later this month. Long story short, I’m in the process of re-locating my sizable library to a new room on the third floor.

The new layout will work well, and I plan to make the collection available to local folks who wish to use it. Alas, I can read only one book at a time. 🙂 I’ll also be using the LibraryThing app to catalog the titles and integrate them with my Logos Bible Software collection, which has over 10,500 volumes, and my Kindle, which has about 150 works over a dozen or so catgories. It’ll be interesting to see what the total number of hard-copy items turns out to be. We even gave the new library a name and a logo. I’ll do a separate post on it when the project is complete.

Even more laborious than the physical re-location, though, was creating a classification system for all these books and media items. That, too, will be made available here on TNL in due course. The result is somewhere between the Library of Congress categorization scheme and how a typical seminary organizes its holdings, all tailored now to my own personal interests. (For example, I have about 30 books on the JFK assassination and Watergate scandal. Seminaries don’t usually have those sections!)

Anyway, that’s why my posting has been so sparse lately. Through it all, we’ve had fun with our boys. They just left for vacation, and I miss them already.
